2002 News Items

12 December 2002  Periodic Table 3.3.2 is available for download. This version includes an entirely revised, re-evaluated, and updated electron affinity dataset. The most visible change is that the signs of all electron affinity values have been flipped. This now matches the more common convention. Thanks to the user who pointed this out and provided an extensive explanation. 3.3.2 also includes several minor improvements, such as some better etymologies and uses texts. 3.3.2 is a free update.

27 November 2002  Version 1.3 of Alchemist's Challenge is now available. Alchemist's Challenge 1.3 has several interesting new features, including more equations in Apothecary's Challenge, a British/American English spelling preference, faster searching of large score files, and more! Alchemist's Challenge provides numerous customizable quizzes to test your knowledge and understanding of the periodic table and beginning chemistry. Naturally, Alchemist's Challenge goes great with our Periodic Table software. Be sure to let us know what you like and don't like about Alchemist's Challenge! 12 November 2002  Version 3.3.1 of Periodic Table is now available. Periodic Table 3.3.1 makes some minor changes and corrects the atomic mass of cobalt. Thanks to the user who pointed this out. If you find any errors in Periodic Table, please, let us know. We carefully check the data, but it's possible for typos to slip through, or for sources to be wrong. Periodic Table 3.3.1 is available for both Mac OS X (10.1 or newer) and the "Classic" Mac OS (Mac OS 8.1 or newer).

7 November 2002  Version 1.4 of ConverTable Planets is now available! While browsing through the NASA Voyager data archives we dug up some nice images of the Saturnian moon Iapetus and the Uranian moon Miranda. So we figured it was time for a new version of ConverTable Planets! Enjoy! ConverTable Planets is freeware and is available in native versions for Mac OS X and Mac OS 8.1 through 9.x.

16 October 2002  Version 3.3 of Periodic Table, the colourful update, is now available. Periodic Table 3.3 adds an appearance periodic table display, autocompletion of element names, and faster switching between windows in OS X. You can also now select British English spellings for the elements. Why? Well, sulphur, aluminium, and caesium are some of our favourite elements! ;-) Periodic Table 3.3 is available for both Mac OS X (10.1 or newer) and the "Classic" Mac OS (Mac OS 8.1 or newer).

16 October 2002  Version 2.1.6 of ConverTable Units is now available. ConverTable Units 2.1.6 is primarily to "improve performance" (fix issues) with Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar). ConverTable Units 2.1.6 is available for both Mac OS X and the "Classic" Mac OS (Mac OS 8.1 or newer). If 2.1.5 works fine for you, this is not a needed update.

23 September 2002  Version 1.2 of Alchemist's Challenge is now available. The big new feature in 1.2: Apothecary's Challenge--practice balancing chemical equations! Alchemist's Challenge provides numerous customizable quizzes to test your knowledge and understanding of the periodic table and beginning chemistry. Naturally, it goes great with our Periodic Table software. Version 1.2 also improves searching for old scores, adds score file exporting, works better with Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar, and more! 18 September 2002  Version 3.2 of Periodic Table is now available. Periodic Table 3.2 adds "long form" periodic table display, and improves performance with Mac OS X in general and makes fixes for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar). Periodic Table 3.2 is available for both Mac OS X and the "Classic" Mac OS (Mac OS 8.1 or newer). If you have Mac OS X 10.2, you need this update!

18 September 2002  Version 2.1.5 of ConverTable Units is now available. ConverTable Units 2.1.5 is primarily to fix issues with Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar). ConverTable Units 2.1.5 is available for both Mac OS X and the "Classic" Mac OS (Mac OS 8.1 or newer). If you have Mac OS X 10.2, you need this update!

18 August 2002  Version 1.3 of ConverTable Planets is now available! A cool new feature lets you view the included planets and moons at their true relative sizes! Viewing the Earth beside Saturn is sure to make you feel small! ConverTable Planets is freeware and is available in native versions for Mac OS X and Mac OS 8.1 through 9.x.

12 August 2002  Periodic Table 3.1 + Japanese Mac OS 9 issues... We have had reports that Periodic Table 3.1 does not work with the Japanese version of Mac OS 9. (The Mac OS X version of Periodic Table works fine with the Japanese Mac OS X.) If you have the Japanese Mac OS 9 and have seen this problem (or have not seen this problem) we would appreciate you telling us about it, so we can hopefully correct it. Thank you!

16 July 2002  It's Macworld New York 2002 week! Alas, we won't be there, but we're anxious to learn what cool new stuff Apple and others introduce. In that spirit, today we're introducing new versions of our chemistry software: Periodic Table and Alchemist's Challenge! See the next two news items for more details on these upgrades!

16 July 2002  Version 3.1 of Periodic Table is released! This is a great update: it adds 2nd and 3rd ionization energy tables, more units for ionization energies, naturally occurring isotope distribution charts, and lots more! Version 3.1 is available for both Mac OS X and the "Classic" Mac OS (Mac OS 8.1 or newer). And it's a free upgrade for currently registered users.

1 July 2002  Version 2.1.1 of ConverTable Units improves the RPN calculator--operations now work more like other RPN calculators. (Free upgrade for registered users.)

27 June 2002  68K Mac Software! We've created a page to archive the last versions of our software for older 68K (late 1980s-mid 1990s) Macs. In fact, these versions are devoid of any PowerPC code--just right for your favorite Quadra! The "updated" for 68K programs include Periodic Table 3.0.4-68K, ConverTable Units 2.0-68K, and UpTime Log 1.8-68K. Additionally, the updated UpTime Log 1.8-68K fixes several bugs in the previous 1.8 version under System 7.5, including out of memory errors and missing icons. You can download 68K software and also read about Synergy Creations' support for older 68K Macs.

24 May 2002  Version 1.2 of MacASCII Display is now available! Learn more at our freeware page. Version 1.2 allows conversions to and from any of: text, decimal ASCII, hexadecimal, and binary. It also adds a table showing all the ASCII codes. It's available for Mac OS 8, 9, and X.

24 May 2002  Periodic Table X 3.0.4 on your iDisk Periodic Table X can be downloaded from your Apple iDisk. Look in the "Software:Mac OS X Software:Applications:Math & Science" folder. 19 April 2002  Version 1.1 of MacASCII Display is now available! Learn more at our freeware page. Version 1.1 lets you drag and drop text files into the block convert window, and fixes a window-closing bug in the Mac OS 8/9 version. It's available for Mac OS 8, 9, and X.

12 April 2002  Version 2.0 of ConverTable Units is released! This version adds several refinements, including fraction entry on the main conversion window, new color calculator themes for Mac OS X, and several other improvements. Thanks to everyone who has made suggestions for improving ConverTable Units. Not all of the suggestions are integrated yet, but we're still working on some of them! Version 2.0 is available for both the "Classic" Mac OS (Mac OS 8 or newer) and Mac OS X. (Free upgrade for currently registered users.)

25 March 2002  New freeware from Synergy Creations: MacASCII Display is now available! Link right over to our freeware page, and read about MacASCII Display. Probably most useful to programmers, MacASCII Display will display the ASCII code--in decimal, binary, and hexadecimal--for any key you press, even accented characters and such. It can also convert blocks of text into their equivalent decimal, binary, and hexadecimal ASCII codes. It's available for Mac OS 8, 9, and X.

25 March 2002  Alchemist's Challenge is coming soon! Synergy Creations' new chemistry software promises to be a great learning tool for our award-winning Periodic Table. Watch our website for more news about this product!

21 March 2002  Version 1.8 of UpTime Log is released! (Free upgrade for currently registered users.) This version adds a "global floating" window option which can let the uptime display float above all other windows in all other programs. Various other improvements have also been made, including minor display issues and a redesigned registration reminder system. Version 1.8 is for Mac OS 8 and 9. It is not designed for Mac OS X, nor for Mac OS 9 installations being used as the OS X Classic environment. You can read why there isn't an OS X version yet here if you're interested.

21 March 2002  Periodic Table X 3.0.4 is on your iDisk! Periodic Table X can now be downloaded from your Apple iDisk. It's currently in the "Software:Mac OS X Software:What's New" folder. 10 February 2002  Apple Computer leadership calls Synergy Creations' Periodic Table X an "amazing hidden gem." Although we didn't hear about it immediately, at last month's MacWorld Expo in San Francisco Apple VPs Avie Tevanian and Philip Schiller gave a presentation called The Power of X in which they named our Periodic Table X software one of the hidden gems for Mac OS X. You can watch the entire presentation in QuickTime at Apple's website. The entire presentation is over an hour long; Periodic Table X is mentioned near the end in the "hidden gems" section.

16 January 2002  Version 3.0.4 of Periodic Table is released! This version adds several improvements to the molecular mass calculator. Version 3.0.4 is available for both the "Classic" Mac OS (Mac OS 8 or newer) and Mac OS X. (Free upgrade for currently registered users.)

16 January 2002  Version 1.2 of ConverTable Planets is released! This version adds Rhea (a moon of Saturn). Also, a native Mac OS X version is now available, as well as the "Classic" version for Mac OS 8 or 9. ConverTable Planets remains, as it has always been, freeware.

7 January 2002  Version 1.9 of ConverTable Units is released! This version adds more units and constants, adds fraction entry to the calculator, fixes issues in 1.8 with certain European number formats, and various other improvements.
